New Website Design

Having recently left my day job in the NHS and chosen to freelance full time, I needed to update my personal website from a WordPress test bed to a proper place to showcase some of my work and to document some of my ideas, thoughts and frustrations.

The Menu Please

I’m actually working towards using WordPress 3.0 for a clients production site albeit not recommended at this stage.  I’ve been working on the menu’s today and the new admin options so I’ve decided to skip ahead a few posts and write about my experience.

I think the new menu system is great.  There’s been various debates about the menu features being bloated or not sticking to the version 1 spec.  I care very little for the spec right now, I think that this is a huge leap in functionality that will really boost WordPress’ CMS abilities. Additional Privacy

Well, sort of, more like a nice little privacy addition.  When I installed my WordPress site I unchecked ‘Allow my blog to appear in search engines’ option.  I did this because I wanted my blog to be out there while I was setting it up and getting everything in place.  However when I was all setup I obviously want to recheck that option so I can start to build up my search ranking.  In previous versions of WordPress I would have had to remember that I had unchecked this box and remember to check it when I went live.  However WordPress 3.0 has a little link that is incredibly useful!
